“Making first ascents is so fun and motivating!

BIO

I have been climbing for over 25 years, I came into contact with the sport around 1993. I was enthusiastic from the beginning, and very quickly it was also clear that if I wanted to be a real climber I had to make "first ascents". From then on, I kept on looking for new routes or boulders, not only in the Frankenjura but also on trips.

I can’t say if I like better sport climbing, trad climbing or bouldering, it depends on the season and on the motivation! But thanks to the mix of these activities, climbing never gets boring for me. And the boundless area of the Frankenjura offers infinite possibilities to fulfill my ideas and my potential.

THE INSIGHTS

You’ve opened over 400 routes, over 2500 boulders and some "clean" routes: why do you make so many first ascents?
I find the process of making a first ascent really fun and motivating! Also, having to walk my dog Henri always makes a perfect excuse to run around in the forest, exploring new areas and rocks. Cleaning, drilling bolts, seeing the lines, and most of all sharing the whole process with friends... This is why I climb!

What do you think is important in climbing?

I would be happy if climbers thought a little more about nature and behaved accordingly. Also, open-mindedness is really important, since in our very free sport there’s no judge and no “right” way to do a move.

What do you do when you're not climbing:

When I'm not climbing, I spend my time with my family! In addition, I have my own climbing school Frischluft and I spend time with my customers on the beautiful rocks of the Frankenjura on the road!
