“Climbing Destination? Too many to choose from!”
-Anna Stoehr
BIO
My life revolves around the idea of enjoying the sport of climbing in multiple ways. I want to be a well-rounded climber who feels comfortable in different terrain. I feel passionate about bouldering, sport climbing, and multipitch climbing. I was born and raised in Innsbruck, in the middle of the Alps, my parents, both climbers introduced me to rock climbing when I was six years old. At the age of eight, I joined a kids climbing group and competed ever since. Now, 24 years later I have made numerous first female ascents in bouldering from Austria to South Africa and the US. I have been on rock climbing trips to Japan, China, the Balkans, Scandinavia and many more. I stopped competing in the World Cup Circuit in 2017 so I am eager to push my limits outside, be it bouldering, sport climbing, or multipitch routes.
THE INSIGHTS
Why / How Did You Start Climbing: My parents, both passionate climbers, brought my sister and I to the rocks when we were really young. When I was 8 years old I joined a kid climbing team. We had a ton of fun climbing and training together and it became a crucial part of my life.
Favorite Climbing Destination: Too many to choose from… I like to discover new places where I have not been before.
Memorable Climbing Achievement(s): Making the FFA of the boulder “The Penrose Step” 8b+ in Leavenworth, USA in 2017. Two-time Bouldering World Champion. Two-time Bouldering European Champion. 22 World Cup Victories
In 3 Words What Describes Climbing To You: Happiness, Life, Confidence.
How Do You Train: For me all types of climbing are a form of training; I love to climb so I just climb and enjoy the moves.
You Whip, You Slip, You Blow The Move... What Motivates You To Try Again: Knowing that eventually, I will be able to do it. Sometimes it is a matter of trust, sometimes it depends on your fitness but small differences can make a huge change.
What Do You Do When You're Not Climbing: At the moment I am teaching in school, I skin on my skis, ski, and hike in the mountains during winter and in the summer I ride my bike. I also enjoy reading books and going to the cinema all-year around.
