Art in movement: Maria Nagni’s Collaboration with Wild Country

With the arrival of this year’s International Women’s Day, Wild Country is proud to spotlight its collaboration with an Italian artist and climber Maria Nagni. This partnership is a testament to the influence of women in art, sport, and innovation, embodying the creativity and strength that inspire climbers worldwide. The fluidity of artistic expression and the precision and grace of a climb come to life through Maria’s delicate hand in her drawings.

Art and climbing share a deeper connection than one might expect. Both require balance, precision, and a profound awareness of movement; both celebrate movement and connection. In an exciting new collaboration, Wild Country partners with Maria Nagni to bring these shared elements to life through a unique artistic journey, blending her artistic vision of movement with the essence of climbing. This collaboration is a core element of Wild Country’s Spring-Summer 2025 collection, an innovative line that inspires climbers to move with purpose while embracing every challenge.

A Journey of Creativity

Maria Nagni’s artistic path has always been intertwined with nature. As a child, she found inspiration in her grandparents’ garden, where vibrant colors and textures first captured her imagination. Over time, her passion for art merged with her love for climbing, leading to an exploration of movement, anatomy, and human connection—both on the canvas and on the rock. A climber herself, Maria found a natural synergy between the physical movements of climbing and the fluidity of artistic expression.

“Climbing is an incredible experience of body awareness”, Maria explains. “It plays all around balance, and the way you move to reach the top is unique to each individual. My aim through art is to reflect the beauty of movement and the power of observation from different perspectives, and climbing is an incredible experience of this concept.”

Movement as a living artwork

This collaboration is not just about aesthetics—it’s a celebration of movement itself: at the core, the concept of movement, not only as a theme but as an experience. Maria’s work evolves from delicate two-dimensional illustrations into immersive, live installations. The process began with a live window painting at Wild Country’s showroom, followed by the transformation of her illustration into a three-dimensional totem sculpture. These pieces serve as visual representations of climbing’s grace, power, and individuality.

The live painting performance brings this concept to life, allowing viewers to witness the fluidity of motion as brushstrokes capture the essence of climbing. Through this project, Maria and Wild Country encourage climbers to view movement not merely as a means to reach the top, but as an art form in itself

“This collaboration has been a transformative experience,” Maria reflects. “Movement has been the vital essence of the project, and through live painting and sculpture, we can all experience the fluidity of motion in a tangible way.”
