“From now on, every new Wild Country female harness will feature the Women Specific Fit. I’m proud to say, this is just one step in the long journey that we intend to take to keep fulfilling the needs of female climbers.” -_ Lucia Soler, Wild Country Marketing Manager

If good experiences come from good gear, having a harness that is comfortable for walking, climbing, and hanging in is definitely a crucial part of everyone’s’ climbing sessions. Over the years, though, we’ve received recurrent feedbacks from all around the world: women were struggling to find the right harness fit for them.

Realizing that re-proportioning was the main solution offered on the market, we’ve gone back to the drawing board to channel our extensive climbing experience to design a new collection of harnesses with a Women’s Specific Fit.

We conducted extensive field testing with women climbers to perfect its shape and dimensions.

But why do women need a differently shaped harness?

  • The rise of a women’s waist tends to be longer, i.e. women need more space between leg loops and waist belt

  • Women have a different waist-to-leg size ratio than men

  • The angle of a women’s pelvis is different

  • Women’s bodies vary in shape more than men.

As a result, women generally find it more comfortable when a harness sits on their waist, rather than around their hips. This is why we have developed a new ergonomic construction, designed specifically to fit the female anatomy.

1. Waistbelt: The new anatomic waistbelt has a unique shape that is studied to fit the female pelvis. It’s narrower at the hips to reduce pressure points, but wider at the centre of the back to provide more support and transfer load more effectively.

2. Waist-leg-ratio: We’ve increased the leg loop diameter, but decreased the waistbelt diameter. Rise: Our women’s harnesses have a longer distance between the waistbelt and leg loops This provides a better fit for the majority of women and also makes the harness more comfortable to hang in for longer periods, such as for hanging belays or when working projects.
